| Product Information: FENERED 5MG |
Active Ingredient: Finasteride
|
What is Fenered
used for?
Fenered is used to treat symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men with an enlarged prostate.
Before taking Fenered
:
Fenered should never be taken by a woman or a child. Finasteride can be absorbed through the skin, and women or children should not be permitted to handle Fenered tablets.
Before taking Fenered, tell your doctor if you have ever had an allergic reaction to this medication, or to a similar medicine called dutasteride (Avodart). Also tell your doctor if you have:
- liver disease, or abnormal liver enzyme tests;
- prostate cancer;
- a bladder muscle disorder;
- stricture of your urethra; or
- if you are unable to urinate.
Although Fenered is not for use by women, this medication can cause birth defects if a woman is exposed to it during pregnancy. Fenered tablets should not be handled by a woman who is pregnant or who may become pregnant. If a woman accidentally comes into contact with this medication from a broken or crushed tablet, wash the area with soap and water right away.
How should I take Fenered
?
Take Fenered exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take it in larger amounts or for longer than recommended. Follow the directions on your prescription label.
Take this medicine with a full glass of water.
Fenered can be taken with or without food.
To be sure Fenered is helping your condition, your blood will need to be tested on a regular basis. Your doctor will also test your prostate specific antigen (PSA) to check for prostate cancer. Do not miss any scheduled appointments.
It is important to use Fenered regularly to get the most benefit. Get your prescription refilled before you run out of medicine completely.
Will Fenered
work for me?
For most men, Fenered increases the number of scalp hairs in the first year of treatment, helping to fill in thin or balding areas of the scalp. In addition, men taking Fenered may note a slowing of hair loss. Although results will vary, generally you will not be able to grow back all of the hair you have lost. There is not sufficient evidence that Fenered works in the treatment of receding hairline in the temporal area on both sides of the head.
Male pattern hair loss occurs gradually over time. On average, healthy hair grows only about half an inch each month. Therefore, it will take time to see any effect.
You may need to take Fenered daily for three months or more before you see a benefit from taking Fenered. Fenered can only work over the long term if you continue taking it. If the drug has not worked for you in twelve months, further treatment is unlikely to be of benefit. If you stop taking Fenered, you will likely lose the hair you have gained within 12 months of stopping treatment. You should discuss this with your doctor.
Fenered is not effective in the treatment of hair loss due to androgenetic alopecia in postmenopausal women. Fenered should not be taken by women.
What are the possible side effects of Fenered
?

Call your doctor at once if you notice any breast lumps, pain, nipple discharge, or other breast changes. These may be signs of male breast cancer.
